Procedures

One of the strengths that sets us apart from other groups is our ability to offer the complete range of cardiothoracic surgical services including:

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). We specialize in "Off-Pump" or "beating heart" surgery and continue to explore minimally invasive techniques to reduce patient discomfort and quicken recovery time. We also use endoscopic harvesting techniques for obtaining vein from the legs or artery from the arm to reduce patient discomfort after surgery, reduce wound complications, and return patients to a high level of activity sooner after their operations.

Heart Valve Repair and Replacement Surgery through both traditional surgical approaches as well as the new "Mini-Valve" approach requiring only a small 5 or 6 cm incision adjacent to the breast bone.

Arrhythmia Surgery for Atrial Fibrillation. Incorporating the newest devices and techniques for reducing and eliminating this common and potentially difficult heart arrhythmia which in the past required life-long anticoagulation therapy and arrhythmia medications.

Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization (TMR). Either as sole therapy or combined with other surgical procedures (coronary bypass or valve operations) TMR offers clinically proven long term benefit in the relief of angina.

Cardiac Transplantation. While medical and surgical therapies continue to advance, there remain some patients for whom heart transplantation is the only option to aid failing hearts. Our experience with this procedure as well as Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD's) allows us to offer options to those patients who would not be considered surgical candidates at other institutions.

Thoracic Surgery. We have an active and comprehensive thoracic surgery program including all aspects of thoracoscopic and minimally invasive lung surgery, esophageal surgery, and full oncologic support.

Vascular Surgery. We provide a a range of peripheral vascular services including open and endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms, carotid endarterectomy, peripheral vessel bypass surgery and vascular access surgery for hemodialysis.
